Stery-Hand will show you how good you wash your hands

Have you ever asked yourself if your hands are enough clean after the washing? And do they stay clean after you living the bathroom, after touching towels, door handles and so on? Offf course you don’t know! But students from the BUTE (Budapest University of Technology and Economics) do!
Recently they have developed an automatic Stery-Hand machine that provides verification of sufficient hand washing. The device is inevitable for clinicians who have to wash their hands every time before surgery or even before general surveying.
This clever Stery-Hand dark box fitting a digital camera and UV lighting works really amazing! The machine detects where UV-reflective disinfectant was used and provides qualitative results via a laptop. So the Stery-Hand machine is about to control whether clinicians followed the whole antibacterial procedure.
In fact the gadget was honored the first place at the European Innovact Campus Awards 2011.

For the most curious reader I explain how Stery-Hand machine should be used.
- put your hands into the box one at a time so that the remote control could take pictures.
- image processing is being perfumed by the software.
- Stery-Hand machine determines hand contour from intensity image
- And we get 3 variants: green means well treated, red – not treated and blue – sufficient.
So we hope that this nice gadget will incredibly improve the quality of medical treatment in public health care centers and in food industry too.
